Our Melbourne Video Production Philosophy

Technology
Serves Narrative.

In three decades of creative video strategy, one truth has never changed: the technology is never the story. 4K resolution, aerial drone cinematography, and motion graphics are extraordinary tools — but they exist to amplify human connection, not replace it.

Every project begins with a single question: what do we need the audience to feel? From that emotional anchor, the entire production — scripting, cinematography, pacing, sound design — is built outward. The result isn't just a video. It's a narrative asset that converts, engages, and endures. That's what 30 years of storytelling-first production looks like in practice.

Schools
Wantirna College
Wantirna — "Discover your Wings"

We have been fortunate to produce a number of school videos with our partner, Chilled Creative. Video works brilliantly — highlighting the students' experience, conveying emotion and personality, while displaying what the school offers. In this example, we took the tagline 'Discover Your Wings' to celebrate the journey of students from year 6 to year 12 — ending with the school captain literally stepping out onto the stage into the limelight.

As a Melbourne-based full-stack video production specialist with 30 years of experience, I offer end-to-end services covering every phase of production. This includes corporate video production, brand films, documentary filmmaking, event videography, interview and testimonial filming, explainer video production, motion graphics and animation, scriptwriting, concept development, sound design, and colour grading. Whether you're a Melbourne startup needing a compelling brand story or an established enterprise requiring a multi-platform content strategy, the entire production lifecycle is handled in-house — from the first creative brief to final delivery.

Video production costs in Melbourne vary significantly depending on scope, duration, and complexity. Social media content and short-form brand videos typically range from $3,000–$8,000. Professional corporate films and explainer videos generally sit between $10,000–$30,000. High-end cinematic brand films, documentaries, or multi-day productions can range from $30,000–$100,000+. Every project begins with a discovery conversation to understand your goals, audience, and budget — so the investment is always scoped to deliver maximum impact for what you're working with. There are no templated packages; every quote is bespoke.

Absolutely. While based in Melbourne and deeply embedded in the local production scene — from Fitzroy and the CBD to South Yarra and St Kilda — projects regularly take me across Victoria, interstate to Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth, and internationally. Remote pre-production (scripting, strategy, storyboarding) can be handled seamlessly from anywhere, and I have established crew networks in major Australian cities to support location shoots without the cost of flying a full Melbourne team.

The process is built around narrative first, technology second. It begins with a deep-dive discovery session to understand your brand, audience, and commercial objectives. From there, the pre-production phase covers scriptwriting, concept development, location scouting, and shot planning. Production day(s) involve professional 4K filming, interview direction, and lighting design. Post-production includes picture editing, motion graphics, sound design, music licensing, colour grading, and multi-format delivery for web, social media, broadcast, or event screens. You're involved at every key milestone — with feedback rounds built in — so the final product is exactly what you envisioned.

You don't need a polished brief — just a problem you want to solve or a story you want to tell. Creative video strategy is one of the most valuable parts of the service. Many Melbourne businesses come knowing they need video content but aren't sure what format, length, or approach will serve them best. The strategic consultation phase exists precisely for this: defining the narrative, identifying the target audience, choosing the right distribution channels (YouTube, LinkedIn, internal comms, event screens, broadcast), and building a production plan that aligns creative ambition with commercial outcomes.

Over 30 years of Melbourne-based corporate video production, experience spans a wide range of sectors including technology and SaaS, healthcare and pharmaceutical, finance and professional services, education and not-for-profit, hospitality and tourism, construction and property development, retail and e-commerce, and government and community organisations. The through-line across all sectors is the same: finding the genuine human story inside the organisation and translating it into a cinematic asset that resonates with the intended audience — whether that's investors, customers, or internal teams.

Yes. Drone and aerial cinematography is available as part of any Melbourne production. All drone operations are conducted in full compliance with CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority) regulations, including appropriate operator accreditation and airspace approvals. Drone footage is particularly effective for property and real estate video, construction progress documentation, event coverage, tourism and destination content, and establishing shots for brand films that need to convey scale, location, or ambition.

Timelines depend on the scale of the project. A focused corporate interview or testimonial video can move from brief to delivery in 2–3 weeks. A full brand film with multiple locations, scripting, and motion graphics typically requires 6–10 weeks. Documentary and long-form projects are scoped individually. Rush turnarounds are available for event coverage and same-day highlight reels. For time-sensitive Melbourne campaigns — product launches, ASX announcements, conference keynote support — just flag the deadline upfront and the production schedule is built around it.

You do not need to have a script ready. In fact, many corporate video clients come to Paul with just a rough concept or a specific business goal. With over three decades of creative video strategy experience, Paul handles the conceptual development and scripting from scratch. We work closely with your team to uncover the human element of your brand, ensuring the final script serves as a powerful emotional anchor before a single camera is set up on set.
